Meningitis / Sepsis
Meningitis is an inflammation of the protective membranes around the brain and spinal cord. In its bacterial form, it can be deadly. If not treated in good time, damage to the brain and other systems of the body can set in. Young children are most at risk, but it can affect people of any age, at any time.
Symptoms of meningitis, especially in small children, can often be confused with general cold or flu-like symptoms. If a doctor fails to spot the early signs of meningitis, causing a delay in treatment, the consequences can be disastrous.
We know all too well the pressure placed on our GPs and doctors in our over-stretched A&E departments – it’s in the news all the time. But failing to diagnose a potentially life-threatening illness, such as meningitis or sepsis, should not go unchallenged. Even when a diagnosis is made, sometimes the right treatment is not provided straight away and questions need to be asked.
These claims can be extremely complex and having been through such traumatic events, we know how important it is to you to be reassured that your legal team are specialists in this challenging area. We have successfully represented many families who have suffered the impact of these devastating conditions and have seen just how distressing it is to know that you, or your child’s, brain injury or other complication could have been easily avoided if a diagnosis and the correct treatment had been given earlier.
